Lanyon’s Landscapes

Two day mixed media course

Join me for a two-day immersive course at the historically significant Porthmeor Print Workshop in St Ives, Cornwall. Where once Peter Lanyon taught with his own Art School, and where we are honoured to use the same workspace as he did. Newly refurbished, the Print Workshop holds the atmosphere and importance of one of the special places to create in St Ives today. Taking our inspiration from the views and places he loved we will take our own images further into an investigation of drawings, simple prints and collages.

On day one, after meeting at the Workshop we’ll begin by gathering drawings out in the harbour, town and along the surrounding coastline, short and quick responses to observe the streets and views, finding distinctive forms that make up this unique place. Back in the workshop studio, these sketches and observations will become the starting point for exploring simple monoprint making techniques, allowing the feel of the landscape to emerge through line, texture, and marks.

On day two we will take these images further, layering and combining with collage papers and creating a series of small mixed media works. We will be capturing the spirit of St Ives with a limited palette and concentrating on an individual response.

Who will this suit?

Someone with a love of landscape, and interest in abstraction and who wants to explore and develop their own interpretations further. With the guidance of a tutor in a small group (max 8 people). All equipment is provided. You may like to bring an apron and a packed lunch, or pop out to one of the many cafes, sandwich or pasty shops!
